Sharing God’s Love
Valentine’s Day is usually considered a day for couples, and never a day I look forward to. I usually sit at home and mope; however, this year I learned of an opportunity to hand out religious artifacts at Haven for Hope, and I jumped at the chance. I didn’t know what to expect.
A woman in a wheel chair asked for a beginner’s Bible because she couldn’t read but she wanted to start by reading the Bible. There were children running around, laughing, and enjoying themselves. Haven for Hope was the last place I thought I’d hear laughter. The kids would come to us and point to pictures of Mary or Jesus, tilt their heads and ask if they could have the image, rosary, or prayer book. The children’s eyes would light up with joy when we gave them their religious article.
Although the people at Haven for Hope may not have much, one thing that was plentiful was hope. I wouldn’t want to spend Valentine’s Day any other way. That day love was so tangible. Their happiness became contagious. This experience makes me want to do more service in the community and spread joy to everyone.
